Tom and Melanie were married in May of 1990 and committed to each other to live a life that would honor God. They would raise their children to love God and serve others. They immediately started a family, a son in 1991, daughter in 1992, and another daughter in 1998. They purchased 6 acres in the country to raise their children. Both Tom and Mel were working, Tom for a tool and die business, Mel as a RN for the VNA. Tom had worked for a rental company in Philadelphia and always enjoyed serving in this type of business. While raising their children they determined to start a business in the Freeport area doing that same thing. Classic Tent Rentals & Party Supplies commenced in December 1992 when they purchased their first tents, tables, and chairs for delivery in April. They became busy organizing a brochure and advertising their business they passed out and mailed this information announcing a local party supplies store that would be a “one stop shop” for all their party needs. Quickly their small company that they ran out of their home and a side job became a major source of income for their home. Tom was able to resign from his full time job that next spring, he worked full time that following summer setting up tents and assisting their customers with their event planning. In the winter months he worked at Mel’s parents business Dynamic Ceramics in the die shop to supplement their income during the winter until they were able to learn how to manage accounts receivable and payable for a seasonal business. Their 3rd summer they found themselves renting a storefront in a nearby town so as to run a more efficient party rental store. Mel had been assisting with order taking and making sure all items were available and ready for the next week’s rentals as well as full time mother and nurse.
Melanie had resigned from her nursing job in order to better assist her husband with their thriving business in 1998. Classic Tent Rentals had continued to expand, and in 2005 subsequently purchased land and built their own storefront and warehouse in the Freeport area. With 8400 square foot of space they have been able to expand the amount and size of tents as well as a full wedding/event planning and decorating staff.
Thomas and Melanie Waddell have been well known throughout the community for many years for their entrepreneur and servant spirit. Both had grown up in families that were always willing to forge ahead with their ideas to make a living. They have been serving their customers with rentals items from formal weddings, corporate events, community events as well as backyard parties. Wedding planning for many weddings each year with as many as 15 on one weekend, and are no novice to this aspect of events. Along with event planning they provide a full service rental store and have items from Tents, Tables, Chairs, to Linens, China, Flatware and even Ceiling Décor and Centerpieces, there isn’t any items they are not willing to provide.
Over the years, Tom and Melanie had been looking for a location that they could call their own as a Bed & Breakfast Wedding/Event Center so they could continue to serve their clients. Many occasions they were asked for suggestions on locations that are perfect for certain events, they have found, and are pleased to be able to offer their own B&B and wedding venue. As Owners of this Bed and Breakfast/Wedding Venue they will continue with their existing impeccable rental and wedding planning service but, at their own location. With its beautiful scenery, it is the perfect wedding venue for all elegant, formal and intimate weddings or special events. The grounds and gazebo on this romantic estate and bed and breakfast provide the perfect backdrop to the beginning of a new life together. They can assist their clientele plan and organize their event so that every detail is perfect.
